Sydneysiders barred from beaches after hundreds hit the coast despite soaring COVID cases | Sky News

Sydneysiders have been barred from some of the city’s most popular beaches after hundreds rushed to enjoy the warm weather despite soaring COVID-19 cases.

New South Wales broke another pandemic record on Saturday with 1,599 new COVID-19 cases reported overnight and eight deaths.

But that did not stop the hordes of beach-lovers who flocked to the coast on Saturday morning only to see access closely monitored over social distancing concerns.

As temperatures hit 29 degrees Celsius, Police set up checkpoints to monitor Bondi beach, Bronte Beach, Red Leaf Beach and Camp Cove Beach and control entry to the popular sites.
